Business names

Searching for registered business name details

Persons interested in conducting a search for registered business name details may conduct a business name extract search.

The Business Name Register contains the following details for each registered name:

• the full registered business name;
• the nature of business;
• the principal place of business;
• the postal address;
• other places of business;
• the name and address of proprietor/s;
• the date of commencement;
• the name and address of the resident agent; and
• a list of documents lodged for registration of details.

Details can be obtained in one of four ways:

National Names Index Search Facility - This is a free service, access is limited to the business name & registration number only.  However, software supporting the search will not always retrieve names that are slightly different to those entered.  Click here to access the National Names Index.

Use an ASIC appointed Information Broker - This provides full access to the Business Names Register.  A fee is payable.  Click here to access Information Brokers.
 
Application Form, lodged in person - Complete an 'Application for an Extract Search - Business Name' and lodge it, in person, at Service Tasmania pay the appropriate fee and an extract of the registered business name will be posted to you.

or fax it to the Business Affairs Branch on (03) 6233 4882 with credit card details for the appropriate fee. A search will be conducted and the result posted within 3 days of receipt.
